Oyster House

Our story began in 1947 when Philadelphia lawyer Samuel Mink purchased seafood restaurant Kelly's on Mole Street. It was a Philly institution for several decades, serving seafood and raw oysters to a loyal business crowd.
Then, in 1969, Samuel's son David took over the family business at age 22. He moved the restaurant to its present location and renamed it Sansom Street Oyster House.
David focused on serving only the freshest seafood available, personally going to the market daily to select each fish. 'We used to change the menu every six months,' said David in a 1987 interview. 'Now it's twice a day.'
