Inside a historic bank building that dates back to 1848, Oak's stately setting features three floors with five distinct dining areas. Arched windows, 20-foot ceilings, original medal work, fireplaces and 150-year-old heart pine floors, offers the perfect setting for enjoying a special nights. Built in 1848, the building was originally a mercantile exchange. By the 1870s, the South Carolina Loan & Trust Company moved in and added a new facade with cast iron and plaster ornamentation in the Italianate old world style. The building remained a bank until 1938. In 2003, Oak Steakhouse acquired the building and oversaw an 18-month restoration that retained many of the magnificent original design elements of the building including the original bank vault. The restaurant has five distinct dining spaces in a three-story building with fireplaces and cozy seating. Locally commissioned artwork, custom-designed iron chandeliers, and intricate one-of-a-kind vault wine locker that showcases wines are just a few of the features that make this one of the most distinctive dining spaces in the city. Artist Jill Hooper also painted a one-of-a-kind Audubon inspired mural in the upstairs dining spaces. Custom designed Iron Chandeliers by Ann Yancy of Ro Sham Beaux.
